Johkula – lake, fell and northern lights in one village
In Johkula you ski the slopes of Johku Fell in the morning, drive a husky team across the Jänkälä bogs in the afternoon and enjoy a lakeside sauna on Lake Johku in the evening. In summer you paddle among the islands, run the Johku Rapids and watch summer theatre under the midnight sun. Everything is close: the fell is just 8 km from the village centre.
Winter starts in November
Johku Ski opens its slopes in late November, and the ski bus runs from the village centre via Johku Resort to the slopes. In winter Johkula is all about husky rides, northern lights tours, ice fishing on Lake Johku and skating on the lake's nature ice trail.
Summer on the lake and river
The islands, clear water and sandy beaches of Lake Johku are a dream for paddlers, SUP boarders and swimmers. Johku Outdoor rents kayaks and runs guided tours, Johku Wake offers wakeboarding, and in Koskikylä the Johku Rapids are waiting.
Sauna all year round
Johkula has designer saunas at the village harbour by Johku Sauna, a small wood-fired sauna at Niemenkärki and the lakeside sauna at Johku Resort. Ice swimming all winter long.
