When the winter evening grows dark, we light the lanterns and set off around Johkula village. Everyone gets their own lantern. We walk the snowy shore path to the harbour, hear stories about the polar night, the ice road and the northern lights, and stop to look out over frozen Lake Johku. On a clear evening you may see the northern lights.
At the end we warm up with hot juice or cocoa.
Good to know
- Departures 1 November – 31 March on Thursdays and Saturdays at 17:00 from the Tourist Information, Asematie 1.
- Duration about 1.5 hours, about 2 km.
- Up to 20 people per group. The walk runs with at least 4 participants.
- Hot drink and lantern included.
- Dress warmly: it can be colder than −20 °C. Shoe spikes are a good idea.
- Children under 7 free with an adult.
- The lantern walk is included in the Johkula Card.
